About Private Therapy Services

General Information

  • I specialize in working with young children, focusing on connection, communication, and emotional development. For children with Selective Mutism, I will support you into early adulthood. If you’re unsure whether my services are the right fit for your child, feel free to reach out!

  • Each session is personalized to meet your child’s unique needs. Using the DIRFloortime® approach, I focus on play, engagement, and emotional connection to support communication and development. Sessions might include interactive play, sensory activities, or strategies to help you connect with your child in meaningful ways.

  • DIRFloortime® is all about supporting not just your child, but your whole family. Your involvement is key! Therapy isn’t just about speech and language—it’s about connection. By joining the sessions, you’ll learn how to tune into your child’s needs, engage with them in meaningful ways, and strengthen your relationship. We’ll guide you every step of the way to help create more joyful and connected interactions with your child.

  • Depending on your child’s needs, I may offer virtual parent coaching sessions. Reach out, and we can discuss if this would be a good option for your family.

  • DIRFloortime® is a relationship-based approach that supports your child’s development through play, connection, and emotional engagement. It is rooted in DIR® (Developmental, Individual Differences, Relationship-Based Model), which is the theory that guides our understanding of how children grow and learn. Floortime is the intervention—using playful, meaningful interactions to support your child’s communication, thinking, and social-emotional development.

    DIR stands for:

Development—focusing on your child’s social-emotional growth, communication, and thinking skills at their own pace.

Individual differences—recognizing your child’s unique strengths, challenges, and sensory needs.

Relationships—using meaningful interactions to help your child build communication, thinking, and social skills.

During Floortime, we follow your child’s interests and engage in joyful, back-and-forth interactions to strengthen their ability to connect, communicate, and think flexibly. Parents play a key role in this process, and I’ll guide you in ways to support your child’s progress at home, too!

  • Yes, I can provide a diagnosis of Selective Mutism if appropriate. Diagnosing Selective Mutism involves a comprehensive assessment process, which includes gathering a detailed history of your child's communication behaviors across different settings, evaluating their social-emotional development, and considering factors such as anxiety, sensory processing, and overall communication skills.

The diagnosis is based on criteria outlined in the DSM-5, which define Selective Mutism as a consistent inability to speak in specific social situations (such as school or community settings) despite speaking comfortably in others. It is not due to a lack of language knowledge or a primary communication disorder.

If you are applying for the Family Empowerment Scholarship, my documentation can support the process; however, you will need to take it to your physician for their review and agreement. If you have any questions about the assessment process or next steps, feel free to reach out!

Payment and Insurance

  • I operate as a fee-for-service provider, which means I don’t bill insurance directly. This allows me to focus entirely on your child’s unique needs without insurance limiting the number of sessions or influencing therapy goals. You’re welcome to submit monthly superbills to your insurance for possible reimbursement, and I’m happy to provide the necessary documentation to help with that process.

  • I accept cash, checks, and credit cards. If you’re paying with cash or a check, please provide payment at the time of your child’s session. For credit card payments, I’ll securely process the charge automatically through my electronic health record system on the evening of the session.

  • No, a referral isn’t required! However, if you have one from a doctor, teacher, or other professional, it can give us helpful background information about your child’s needs. But don’t worry—we’re happy to start working with your child either way

Scheduling and Policies

  • Life happens, and I understand! If you need to cancel a session, please provide at least 24 hours' notice to avoid being charged the full session fee. If you or your child becomes ill within that 24-hour window, just send me a quick text, and I’ll waive the charge. I also offer grace for the first missed session without notice—sometimes things come up unexpectedly!  To help you stay on track, you’ll receive reminders 48 hours and 24 hours before your appointment through my electronic health record system. Regular attendance is key to making the most of your child’s therapy journey, and I appreciate your commitment!

  • Every child is different, and I’ll work with you to determine the best schedule for your child’s needs. Regular attendance is important for progress, and we can adjust the frequency as needed.
